A Perfect Day in Raleigh, NC

We've had the chance to spend a lot of time in Raleigh, NC lately and explore this part of the country.  Here's our top picks of where to shop and eat for a perfect Saturday in this bustling Southern city.

The Fiction Kitchen

Start your day with a healthy and delicious breakfast at The Fiction Kitchen which serves up vegan and vegetarian dishes with many gluten free options as well. Southern favorites like biscuits and gravy, and faux "chicken" and waffles are featured along with all the classic breakfast standards.  Their's usually a line to get in, but it's worth the wait!

Raleigh Denim Workshop

After brunch, walk around the block to Raleigh Denim Workshop where you can shop for men's and women's raw selvage denim jeans made right in Raleigh.  The shop is in an old brick warehouse and you can see into the production area where the jeans are made by hand.  The store also carries their own line of shirts and dresses as well as items from other designers.

Father and Son Antiques

Stroll another block in the warehouse district to reach Father and Son Antiques. A huge space with beautiful mid-century modern furniture, art and accessories, as well as a large selection of reasonably priced vintage clothing for men and women in the back.

Brewery Bhavana

After exploring the warehouse district head to downtown Raleigh for lunch at Brewery Bhavana.  This is one of the not-to-be missed spots in Raleigh which mixes a craft brewery with an in-house flower shop and bookstore as well as amazing dim sum cuisine. There is often a wait, but you can browse the curated selection of books while you sip a craft cocktail or brew.  Try the crab fried rice that comes wrapped in a layer of egg or the amazing pork buns and shu mai.

Raleigh Vintage

After lunch take a short drive to Raleigh Vintage with an amazing selection of curated vintage clothing as well as some houseware items.  The shop feels like a gallery space with cement floors, white walls and lots of light.

Next head to Holder Goods and Crafts to pick up some unique gift items or just get inspired by the curated decor and home items. The shop features a mix of vintage and antique items with hand-crafted goods, jewelry, art and all sorts of cool stuff you just need to see!

Boulted Bread

Grab a snack next door at Boulted Bread which makes craft bread and pastries with organic, heirloom, and locally sourced grain.

Brewerks Cafe & Historic Oakwood

Next head to the neighborhood just 1/2 mile north of downtown to tour the Historic Oakwood neighborhood. This historically preserved slice of Old Raleigh includes several blocks of Victorian homes which circle the historic Oakwood Cemetery.  

Wander your way through the treelined streets with welcoming porches and marvel at the different architectural details.   Stop for a coffee at Brewerks and then make your way to the stone gates of Oakwood Cemetery to stroll through the beautiful historic cemetery grounds.

After your walk, stop by this pint-size record store nestled in the Oakwood neighborhood to listen to some vinyl while sipping a beer.

Fresh Levant Bistro

About 20 minutes drive north of downtown Raleigh you can find amazing Mediterranean food that is all gluten-free at Fresh Levant Bistro. I love the Shitake mushroom sandwich which is packed with avocado, mint and fresh greens and comes in a fluffy pita that is hard to believe is gluten-free.  Save room for the desserts which change daily!
